Well, i've been
here over here in New Zealand for more a month now - surfed most days with
good waves but not a lot of wind. Today I finally found out
what its all about.
Went with Al to this spot called Pungarehu this afternoon. I swear i'll never
complain about the rocks at Barry again. The launch is off the rocks, down
a boat
"channel" that was dug by some Maoris a few hundred years ago. (to
give you an idea pungarehu is named "Finfucker" in the NZ surf guide)
No wind by the rocks so you have to kind of swim/drift about 10m out before
you can waterstart.
Cross off from the left, 4.7m sails and well powered and logo high sets. Mmmmm
- worth every ding.
the picture gives you an idea (this wasn't a big set wave either) - the locals
are pretty handy - i've got video of one guy nailing two big ariels on the
same wave...
The other pic is of Graveyards where we surfed Friday night - only a small
swell about then.
I'll try and remember to take the camera out with me for the bigger days!
Hope all is good back in blighty
Guy
